to add or not to add, that is the question

so yeah, i posted that smartass comment and article below. but i've been thinking a lot lately about how much of my life is online, especially since i am now taking online classes to earn my mba. i have a facebook page that i keep up with almost daily. i have this blog. i have my work blog. my whole job is pretty much centered on marketing a website. i do all of my banking online. i have three email accounts. i do much of my shopping online. i sell things on craigslist and ebay. news? either mpr in my car or online newspapers and new sites. and on and on...it's just crazy when i think about it!

today at lunch i caught myself talking about so and so's face book status, yada yada yada. it felt weird and geeky. it felt like...if i had heard someone else say it, i would have laughed my ass off! but in all seriousness, it is now a huge part of my life. my passion at work is ecommerce, and as a marketer i am always "on". what better way to gather ideas than on the world wide web?

the recent article about the blogger and former gawker writer probably helped to spark my thoughts on this, damn her. all of the crappy commenters really surprised me. like it or not, it is the wave of the future. i have formed awesome friends online that i have never met in person. maybe someday we'll actually organize a get-together so we can meet. or maybe we won't. either way i consider them friends and i care about their lives.

tonight i find myself pondering the ever important "should i add this person as a friend on facebook?" and this isn't the first time i've agonized over such a thing. again, i would laugh if i heard someone talking about it. but it happens! in this case it's a guy from high school. very nice, we traveled in packs that crossed paths now and then. he's really good friends with an ex boyfriend of mine. (when i was 16) i found him on another friend's page. i checked out his friends liar and saw that the ex is one of them. do i add him? do i not? why the hell does this even matter? why the hell am i even wasting time thinking about it?

oh, how the world has changed...

um yeah...i could have told you that...

welcome back, valued employees, welcome back

had to chuckle at this notice in my email this morning from company t:

You may have noticed the number of dirty dishes being left on the counter in the lunchroom again. As the note on the cupboard, with the big red arrow indicates, everyone is responsible to CLEAN UP THEIR OWN DISHES. We have provided dish soap and scrubbers to help with the process.
Please remember that your Mom doesn’t work here (and if she does, her job isn’t to do your dishes), so let’s all do our part and clean up after ourselves. If we continue to have problems, all permanent dishes and utensils will be removed from the lunchroom and any reusable dishes left on the counter will be thrown out.

long weekends rock

this weekend has been absolutely delightful...and i don't want it to end!

friday we were let off of work at 1:00, and a few co-workers and i enjoyed an early happy hour on the patio of a local establishment. (just one!) then i got a much needed hair cut and met some old work pals for yet another happy hour! came home afterwards and hung out and slept in with the bf.

saturday went to southdale and ate at the cheesecake factory with two of my favorite boys. (bf and b) had my beloved peach bellinis, a chicken soft taco, warm brown bread, pot stickers, crab cakes...yum yum yum. it's a good thing i don't live closer or i'd probably weigh 900 pounds in no time. i never would have associated the cheesecake factory with much more than well, cheesecake, until i tried it and became a huge fan of pretty much anything i've tried there. hello, my name is angie and yes, i am a chain restaurant worshiper. ; ) went shopping and to a movie at southdale as well. it was a lot of fun.

today we slept in, i did some things around the house and then we went to a friends place to grill, chat and watch a movie. it was relaxing and great to see friends we don't get together with often enough!

i really, really don't want this weekend to end. even though i have two short weeks and a business trip to chicago ahead of me, i feel just plain TIRED of work. it's been quite a while since i've had a REAL vacation, and i'm feeling it. knowing we have monday off is wonderful, but i need more time!

success is so sweet

i worked out a ton (for me) today. first a very brisk 30 minute walk at work. then 40 minutes of intense cardio/strength training video at home tonight. i ate some junk at work today and was happy to see that even after logging my calories (i do this a few times a week) and my exercise, i burned enough to make up for the junk and keep a 600 calorie "deficit".

enter bf tonight at 9:30, french silk pie blizzard (my fave) in hand. guilts me into eating it. so much for the calorie deficit...

i have 11 pounds left to hit my long term goal. 2 pounds to hit my short term goal. most of all i just want to fit comfortably into my summer clothes. i am pretty much there now, so that's good. i've been managing to exercise regularly for a few weeks and it is making a difference. the trick will be to keep it up.

but...boys with blizzards could definitely undermine my progress!

and if it weren't for these damn minnesota winters, i wouldn't be putting on "winter weight" in the first place!

Happy Mother's Day!

Check out the photos from my outing with the kiddos here.

surived the second week!

well, i survived the second week of school! i finally received my grade for my first paper, and I got 100%! I submitted my second paper tonight and we are moving into week three! I think I am probably spending way too much time on my papers right now, they are only 1-2 pages but I think I have put in about 7-9 hours on each one. Eeek! I suppose that will change as I get used to the process. Then again, I've always been a crazy perfectionist when it comes to my writing. The editing and revising process takes me FOREVER! At any rate, even though this is hard work I am learning new things and enjoying myself in the process. I think it's driving the BF a bit crazy not to have as much of my attention, but hopefully he gets used to that as well!

hope all of you mothers had a very happy mother's day!

abc's and 123's

i got an A (100%!) on my first assignment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

enemies

i got this in an email today and it totally cracked me up:

All women should live so long as to be this kind of old lady!

Toward the end of Sunday service, the Minister asked, 'How many of you
have forgiven your enemies?'

80% held up their hands.

The Minister then repeated his question.

All responded this time, except one small, elderly lady.

'Mrs. Neely?'; 'Are you not willing to forgive your enemies?'

I don't have any.' She replied, smiling sweetly.

'Mrs. Neely, that is very unusual. How old are you?'

'Ninety-eight.' she replied.

'Oh, Mrs. Neely, would you please come down in front & tell us all how
a person can live ninety-eight years & not have an enemy in the world?'

The little sweetheart of a lady tottered down the aisle, faced the
congregation, and said:

'I outlived the bitches.'

eye of my tiger

one has to wonder...ten years from now when today's children are dating, will there be an over-abundance of embarrassing videos to show to their perspective mates? methinks this may be the case.

i just wasted 30 minutes uploading a video that apparently decided not to work after all. GRRRRRRR!!!

highlights

1st week of school is under my belt, including my 1st paper. yay!

getting new "Giant" bike as a mother's day present from the bf. should be ready this week!

managed to exercise daily last week and promptly end my streak over the weekend. ugh.

plan to start up again tonight. really, i do...

am enjoying a cinco de mayo themed food day at work today. yum!

currently listening to and loving the new tristan prettyman cd.

visited the living green expo at the mn state fairgrounds this weekend. bought two organic cotton baby blankets for gifts. awesome!

impatiently waiting for my surplus check. plan to use it to pay bills though that is not the original intended use. (it will take a lot more than $900 to stimulate me to spend more than what i owe on my credit cards.)

finally have some gorgeous weather, going out for a nice brisk walk with co-workers this afternoon.

currently obsessed with plants, though i have a brown thumb, zero plants in my house and one dying one at work. plan to go shopping for a little window herb garden and another plant or two for my desk. green things make me happy.
